Synopsis For Baffin Bay To Rio Grande Out 60 Nm-
Synopsis
Light south winds and low seas prevail this morning. Winds will remain light but should back a bit to southeast or east later today. High pressure in the north Gulf is competing with lower pressure in the Bay of Campeche for control of the local winds. Showers are still developing along an old frontal boundary offshore. Otherwise...light to moderate winds and low seas are expected to continue along the Lower Texas coast through late Wednesday or early Thursday due to a weak pressure gradient. Easterly swells are forecast to build locally late Wednesday or early Thursday after Hurricane Ike enters the Gulf on Tuesday... and seas will increase to above Small Craft Advisory criteria by late Thursday or early Friday...then remaining high through Saturday morning before beginning to decrease. There is still a lot of uncertainty regarding the track of Ike...so forecast conditions may change over the next few days. High surf...rip currents and coastal flooding will need to be addressed as conditions develop. Mariners should continue to monitor the latest track and intensity forecasts of Hurricane Ike during the next several days.
