NWS Forecaster Discussion
300 fxus63 kgrb 291955 afdgrb Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 255 PM CDT Friday Aug 29 2008 Short term...tonight through Saturday...high and dry is the forecast through the period. Zonal flow will begin to amplify over the state this weekend. Made minor changes to previous forecast...dropping mins slightly...as low level flow weakens towards morning and dews in the 40s at this time. With drier air upstream continuing to filter in...and expected low level winds will stay away from mention of fog tonight. Lowered dew points for Sat. Long term...Saturday night through Friday large high pressure will remain in control of the weather Saturday night through Monday night. This period of should be dominated by clear nights and sunny days with warm afternoon temperatures and relatively low humidity with dew points in the 50s. By Tuesday...southerly flow will finally bring somewhat higher dewpoints to the area with most locations in the upper 50s to middle 60s Tuesday afternoon as cold front approaches Wisconsin from the west. A cold front will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area...beginning across the west late Tuesday night and across the entire area on Wednesday. The front will then stall south of the area Wednesday and Thursday. Over running expected to set up with remants of tropical storm/ Hurricane Gustav are expected to move into Wisconsin on Thursday and Friday. This will be much needed rain as much of the north has fallen into the moderate drought category per latest drought monitor. Temperatures will be well above normal for most of the week. Temperatures could approach record levels in some spots and September 3rd and 4th. && Aviation...VFR conditions expected through the weekend. Do not expect fog tonight given some wind just above the ground as short wave passes to our north. Marginal low level wind shear possible around 06z tonight with light southwest winds at the surface and west winds of 20 to 25 knots between 1 and 1.5k above ground level. Given marginal nature...left out tafs at this time. && Grb watches/warnings/advisories... none. && $$ Te/eckberg
