NWS Forecaster Discussion
904 fxus66 kotx 280440 aaa afdotx Area forecast discussion...updated National Weather Service Spokane Washington 940 PM PDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008 Synopsis... though not as windy as Wednesday afternoon...expect winds to be gusty once again Thursday. Another chance of rain will be in the forecast Thursday...mainly near the British Columbia border...as the storm track remains to the north over southern British Columbia. The warmest day will be Friday before a cold front moves across the region Friday night and Ushers in cooler and windy weather Saturday. && Discussion... the main update to the forecast was to decrease winds region-wide and end the threat of precipitation for all but the hi mountains along the Bitterroot crest and the north Cascades. A much more stable air mass is now working its way across the region as shallow instability in the afternoon and early evening over north Idaho is now all but gone as the jet axis continues to move slowly north and the surface cools. Inbound warmfnt approaching northwest Washington at this time should begin to spread middle cloud ceilings east across eastern Washington overnight as the low-level flow continues to back to southerly and lg- scale ascent steadily increases along and north of the frontal boundary. Given the significant westerly component to the flow and the fairly dry air mass below 700mb...the only zones we'll have any mention of precipitation the rest of the nt will be along the Cascades crest and along the British Columbia border for the higher mountains late. Bz && Aviation... the next middle-level wave passes overnight and Thursday...the brunt of which remains north of the Canadian border. This comes with a renewal in clouds (mainly middle/upper) toward 12z Thursday and increased wind gusts (near 20kts) toward mid-Thursday. A slight risk for showers will be held to the Cascades and northern mountains./Jcote/bz && Preliminary point temps/pops...
