Through midnight EST...a very large area of rain with embedded showers and possible thunderstorms...will continue to spread into and across central east Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains. Movement will be east northeast at 45 to 50 miles an hour. Rainfall amounts will generally range from one tenth to one half inch per hour. However...amounts of up to three quarters of an inch or more per hour...will be possible with heavier showers and any thunderstorms. Patchy fog will also be seen across the region overnight. The fog may become locally dense in some areas...reducing visibilities to one mile or less at times. Motorists are urged to slow down and use low beam headlights when traveling through areas with fog.

Temperatures range from the middle 30s Wise County and part of the northern plateau to the lower 50s southeast Tennessee and SW NC at this hour. A nearly stationary front lies just south of the forecast area and is expected to lie along the eastern mountains overnight. Still looks like next 36 hour period or more of fairly continuous rainfall as upper trough strengthens over south central states and brings moisture NE across southeast states tonight into Wednesday while low pressure areas move NE along front.
