NWS Forecaster Discussion
459 fxus66 kmfr 280331 afdmfr Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Medford or 830 PM PDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008 Discussion...skies across the forecast area continue to be clear this evening. Thermal surface trough developing along California coast and push up to southern Oregon coast. With higher pressure developing over interior Oregon...pressure gradients will create an offshore flow over southwest Oregon and northwest California by sunrise. Also strong north winds offshore. Currently buoy 27 near Pt St George has 30 knots sustained with gusts to 37. No updates needed for forecasts. && Aviation...VFR for the next 24 hours across southern Oregon and north central California as an offshore flow develops. && Previous discussion... /issued 314 PM PDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008/ Short term...clear skies...offshore flow...and warming temperatures will continue through Friday as a broad Flat Ridge settles over southern Oregon and northern California. Should see quite breezy northeast winds along Mountain Ridge tops over Curry...Josephine...Jackson and Siskiyou counties tonight through Friday afternoon. The offshore flow will cause very warm temperatures along the Curry County coast. Would not be surprised to see 90 degree weather in some locations. Inland temperatures will be warmest on Friday as the offshore flow begins to weaken. Long term...models are showing a decent trough dropping in from the northwest this weekend. At this time it does not have much moisture so only going with slight chance of precipitation. The main issue with this trough is cooling. By Sunday we could see temperature fall 15 to 20 degrees compared to fridays forecasted highs. Nighttime lows Monday and Tuesday should be similar to lows yesterday morning with 40s west side valleys and 30s east side valleys. A weaker trough moves through next Tuesday to keep temperatures below normal but that one lacks moisture also. && Mfr watches/warnings/advisories... or...red flag warning until 11 am PDT Friday for orz619-orz620. California...red flag warning until 11 am PDT Friday for caz280. Pacific coastal waters...Small Craft Advisory for winds until 5 am PDT Thursday for pzz356-pzz376. Hazardous seas warning from 5 am Thursday to 3 am PDT Friday for pzz356-pzz376. Gale Warning from 5 am to 11 PM PDT Thursday for pzz356-pzz376.
