Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Tulsa OK
336 am CDT Friday Aug 29 2008

Discussion...
weak frontal boundary moving into northeast Oklahoma early this
morning will sag south through the area today. A few showers and
thunderstorms have developed north of the front near the Kansas
border and these may persist for the next few hours. Low level
convergence will be quite weak today and the upper ridge over the
area remains rather strong. Therefore expect only about 20 percent
coverage of convection today and will use areal coverage wording.

The drier air lags the frontal boundary and some of this drier air
may make it into parts of northeast Oklahoma and northwest
Arkansas late tonight and Saturday morning before it retreats
Saturday afternoon. Will carry isolated showers and storms again
Saturday but will then drop the mention of rain for the rest of
the Holiday weekend.

Beyond Tuesday...the forecast confidence really drops off as the
movement of Gustav will hold the key to our weather. The models
are very divergent on this with the European model (ecmwf) most aggressive in
bringing the remains of Gustav directly over our area. At this
point in time...feel chance probability of precipitation and a slight cooldown in maximum
temperatures is the best course of action.

Did not stray too far from the GFS MOS maximums the next couple
days but went a bit warmer than the GFS MOS for minimums tonight.
The GFS MOS probability of precipitation are too low today as areal coverage is likely to
be greater than 2-5 percent.
