Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Gray ME
150 PM EDT Monday Oct 6 2008

Synopsis...
high pressure over the eastern Great Lakes will slowly move eastward
..cresting over the region on Wednesday. A southwesterly flow will
develop on the back side of the high later Wednesday and push a
weak warm front through the region Wednesday night. A trailing cold
front will will transit the region on Thursday. A bubble of high pressure
will approach the region Thursday night and crest over the region
on Friday. A southeasterly onshore flow will develop behind the high
Friday night into Saturday. Weak low pressure will move across the
region Saturday night into early Sunday.

&&

Near term /until 8 PM this evening/...
a continued slight chance of an isolated shower for the rest of the
afternoon with clouds dissipating with the loss of daytime heating.

&&

Short term /8 PM this evening through 6 PM Tuesday/...
high pressure will promote clear skies tonight through Tuesday.
Temperatures will be below normal. Used blend of mav/met/current
forecast for temperatures/winds and blend of mav/current forecast
for temperatures. Will issue npw for frost advisory away from the
coast with temperatures forecast is for lower 30s. No advisory/warning
for northern/mountain zones as growing season has already ended
there.

&&

Long term /Tuesday night through Monday/...
temperature moderation trend continues on Wednesday with a few
areas reaching 70 degrees during the middle afternoon hours...mainly
over southern New Hampshire.

Confidence level is not high today for the extended forecast. This
is especially true for the upcoming weekend weather as GFS and
Euro models continue their divergence. More pessimistic GFS drives
moisture northward as upper level low ejects out of the southeast.
Overunning with deep south to southeast flow will allow for
showers Saturday and perhaps into early Sunday. Euro model quite
different in this respect. For now...have follwed gmos fairly
closely which keeps a chance of showers over the region throughout
the weekend.

Early next week...expect another cool...Canadian high pressure
system to drift over the region from Canada.

&&

Aviation /18z Monday through Saturday/...
short term...VFR

Long term...some low level cloudiness Wednesday night and
Thursday...but mainly above MVFR conditions. Conditions lower more
dramatically for the upcoming weekend as low cloudiness and
visibilities begin to reduce from the onshore flow off the open Atlantic.

&&

Marine...
short term...no flags.

Long term...no flags...however winds will be increasing late in
the week and early in the weekend from the southeast.

&&

Gyx watches/warnings/advisories...
ME...frost advisory from 2 am to 8 am EDT Tuesday for mez018>022.
New Hampshire...frost advisory from 2 am to 8 am EDT Tuesday for nhz003>010-
013.
Marine...none.
