NWS Forecaster Discussion
285 fxus63 kgld 070756 afdgld Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Goodland Kansas 156 am MDT sun Sep 7 2008 Discussion... 156 am MDT sun Sep 7 2008 Northwest middle/upper flow continues across the Central High plains as a mean large-scale trough remains entrenched across much of the central and northern Continental U.S.. the primary concern through the short term periods will be the widespread precipitation event anticipated tonight through early Monday. Strong 310k pressure advection is prognosticated to develop between 03-05z as 40-50kt 700 mb flow noses into the area. 305k wind strmlns/mixing ratio suggests 11-12 g/kg of juice will be available while MUCAPE ranges from 800-1300 j/kg after 5z. Point soundings indicate minimal cinh for parcels in the 700 mb-h75 layer supporting raising probability of precipitation across much of the area with the highest values in the northeast zones. A shortwave trough will translate east across the central and northern plains on Monday with the best large-scale forcing for ascent weighted across the northeast zones once again. Expect increasing subsidence after 18z with no mention of precipitation planned. Temperatures will struggle to reach the 60s in some locations and the previous forecast captured the expected scenario well. Tuesday...the surface ridge will translate eastward across the middle Mississippi Valley allowing southerly flow to return to the Central High plains. Under increasing heights/thickness expect warming/dry conditions with highs climbing into the 70s. Days 4 through 7...no changes. && Aviation... 524 PM MDT Sat Sep 6 2008 For the 00z tafs...VFR conditions should stick around until around 09z...afterwords expecting fog/stratus to develop with IFR conditions in store. The low level moisture will hang around through mid-morning...with VFR conditions following and southwesterly winds under 15 knots. Kj && Gld watches/warnings/advisories... Kansas...none. NE...none.
