NWS Forecaster Discussion
401 fxus64 kmeg 280138 aaa afdmeg Area forecast discussion...updated National Weather Service Memphis Tennessee 838 PM CDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008 Update... skies had cleared over the midsouth at discussion time. GOES infrared imagery showed scattered cirrus spilling into MO and western Arkansas... downstream from monsoonal storms in nm and Texas. Minor updates were made to first period sky condition and overnight lows. Remainder of forecast on track. Pwb && Previous discussion... /issued 257 PM CDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008/ Update... weak high pressure is building into our region. Temperatures are near climatology. Short term (tonight through sunday)... jet stream remains along the northern tier of the US. Late in the week a shortwave is forecast to move through the Great Lakes pushing a cold front into the lower Mississippi Valley. There is some disagreement with the models on how far south this feature moves. The GFS is most aggressive over the NAM and European model (ecmwf). Regardless thunderstorms are expected on Friday lingering into Saturday. Inclined to pick the slower European model (ecmwf) and NAM solutions since the GFS can sometimes be too aggressive moving the front south. Even with this in mind lower dewpoints are expected to trickle into our area late Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures should again trend to near normal. Long term (monday through wednesday)... remnants of Gustav will be the main focus during this period. By using TPC guidance and the latest 12z European model (ecmwf) solution it looks like Gustav could have an influence on midsouth weather. Of course it's too early to know for sure...however confidence is enough to include the chance for rainfall along with lower temperatures. && Preliminary point temps/pops... mem 70 93 73 93 / 0 0 10 30 mkl 64 91 67 91 / 0 0 10 30 jbr 66 93 69 91 / 0 0 10 30 tup 67 91 68 93 / 0 0 10 20 && Meg watches/warnings/advisories...
