Previous discussion... /issued 257 PM CDT Wednesday Aug 27 2008/

Update...
weak high pressure is building into our region. Temperatures are
near climatology.

Short term (tonight through sunday)...
jet stream remains along the northern tier of the US. Late in the
week a shortwave is forecast to move through the Great Lakes pushing
a cold front into the lower Mississippi Valley. There is some
disagreement with the models on how far south this feature moves.
The GFS is most aggressive over the NAM and European model (ecmwf). Regardless
thunderstorms are expected on Friday lingering into Saturday.
Inclined to pick the slower European model (ecmwf) and NAM solutions since the GFS
can sometimes be too aggressive moving the front south. Even with
this in mind lower dewpoints are expected to trickle into our area
late Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures should again trend to near
normal.

Long term (monday through wednesday)...
remnants of Gustav will be the main focus during this period. By
using TPC guidance and the latest 12z European model (ecmwf) solution it looks like
Gustav could have an influence on midsouth weather. Of course it's
too early to know for sure...however confidence is enough to include
the chance for rainfall along with lower temperatures.
