Synopsis... the clouds that lingered in the wake of the cold 
front last night finally broke up this afternoon as drier air 
continues to filter into the region. Dew points haven't dropped off 
much from I-70 south yet...but expect them to overnight as the 
high starts to build into the upper Midwest. 


Short term...Holiday weekend 
a beautiful Holiday weekend looks to be in store as high pressure 
dominates the weather across the Midwest. Mostly sunny skies with 
seasonable temperatures can be expected with dew points in the 50s 
to low 60s. This will make for comfortable day time conditions and 
cool nights. 


The high pressure will gradually slide to the east by Monday with 
temperatures moderating to slightly above normal and humidity slowly 
building back into the area. Temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 
90s degrees should be the rule Monday and Tuesday. 


Extended...Tuesday-Friday 
the upper level ridge that will be responsible for the great weather this 
weekend will slide to the East Coast and a trough should develop 
over the western U.S. Early next week. The main concern for this 
period is the impact from the remnants of Hurricane Gustav. Current 
indications are that the center of the system will track to the west 
of the County Warning Area...impacting the area in the Thursday/Friday time frame. 
The ultimate track of this tropical system hinges on the strength 
and timing of a shortwave that is expected to rotate around the base 
of the aforementioned trough on Wednesday.

for the 00z tafs...scattered cumulus clouds at stl/sus should dissipate 
by 01z Sat with loss of daytime heating and as drier low level air continues 
to filter southward through the County Warning Area. Northerly surface winds will become light later this evening 
as the surface ridge currently extending from southern Nebraska east through southern Iowa/northern MO moves 
slowly eastward. The surface wind will gradually veer around to an Ely direction 
on Sat. With a clear sky...light wind and good radiational cooling there 
may be some patchy light fog lt tgt and early Sat morning...especially 
at sus where steam fog is possible in the nearby River Valley with 
relatively cool lt night/early morning temperatures over the Warm River 
water.
