NWS Forecaster Discussion
531 fxus63 ksgf 292357 afdsgf Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Springfield MO 657 PM CDT Friday Aug 29 2008 Update... Will handle weak isolated late afternoon convection with nowcasts as they are fairly weak...short lived and likely to dissipate after sunset. Otherwise we went ahead and added fog to the grids after midnight into middle morning for reasons sited below in the aviation section. Terry && Aviation... Do believe we may see some patchy dense fog towards sunrise Saturday as morning low temperatures drop significantly below crossover temperatures. Dewpoints across southern Missouri remain high this afternoon...so drier air from northern Missouri probably will not make it in to the sgf and jln terminals until after sunrise. With clear skies...calm winds and recent rain this morning...does look to be a good set up for dense fog. For a few hours Saturday morning. Claycomb && Previous discussion... /issued 245 PM CDT Friday Aug 29 2008/ Rain is expected to come to an end just in time for the weekend with a second round possible toward the end of next week with the approach of Gustav. Short term (friday through sunday)... The frontal boundary that sparked convection earlier today will steadily push south as a modest 1017mb high pushes in behind it. Some lingering precipitation is possible along the Missouri/ Arkansas border this evening until the front clears the area. With the high expected to settle in to our east... we can expect dewpoints in the middle 60s for the period as winds turn east to southeasterly over the weekend. The cooler high pressure air mass will balance with heating under clearing skies to give US a pleasant weekend with temperatures in the upper 80s. Long term (monday trough friday)... Fair weather is expected to continue through Wednesday with ridging in control. Both of the long range models are in agreement here. After Wednesday...the forecast becomes more uncertain with the European model (ecmwf) bringing Gustav well onshore and the GFS weakening the system. Both the long range models are inconsistent with the NHC model forecasts which slow the system at the coast. This would bring the remnant moisture into our County Warning Area for the weekend as opposed to the ecmwfs Thursday timing. Decided to go with 30 probability of precipitation for Thursday and Friday with significant uncertainty in the forecast models. Kardell/gagan && Sgf watches/warnings/advisories... MO...none. Kansas...none. && $$
