NWS Forecaster Discussion
151 fxus61 kcar 110614 afdcar Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Caribou ME 214 am EDT Sat Oct 11 2008 Synopsis... a ridge of high pressure will build in from the west today and tonight and then slide south of the area on Sunday. A cold front will cross the area early Monday morning followed by high pressure building in from eastern Canada Monday afternoon. This high will slide south of the region on Tuesday as milder air returns behind the high. && Near term /through tonight/... rather benign weather expeceted through the near term period... hgh pressure centered over the eastern Great Lakes at this time prognosticated to build slowly sewrd off the southern New England coast through sun. This will keep our area under a wnwrly flow aloft through tonight... a weak disturbance forecast to pass just NE of the area later today will combine west/ the cool wnwrly flow to trigger some SC cloudiness...especially northern areas today west/ remainder of the forecast area likely to see some patchy middle/hgh clouds which are visible just upstream per Sat imagery. West/ the disturbance pushing well southeast of the region tonight and the loss of heating...expect any clouds to dissipate leading to mainly clear skies across the board overnight tonight. None probability of precipitation through tonight... && Short term /Sunday through Monday/... high pressure building over the area Sunday will bring mostly sunny conditions during the morning and midday as temperatures reach the upper 50s in most areas. The high will slide south of the region Sunday afternoon allowing moisture circulating over the top of the high to stream into the state. This will bring an increase in clouds. Ridging in eastern Canada will then support a strong high pushing south from Quebec Sunday night. This will bring a back door like cold front through late Sunday night into early Monday morning. A band of showers is likely with the front. Some clearing should press down from the north during the day Monday as the high quickly builds down. && Long term /Monday night through Saturday/... high pressure from eastern Canada will crest over the area Monday night bringing a cold night with temperatures dropping below freezing in many inland valleys. After a cold morning Tuesday morning some sunshine...and eventually a warmer return flow behind the high from the south and southwest...will allow temperatures to rebound to near 60 by middle afternoon. South winds ahead of an approaching cold front will then bring a mild night Tuesday night. A band of showers will move through with the front late at night followed by only moderately cooler weather Wednesday into Thursday. Colder air will progress into the area at the end of the week when some moisture may bring flurries to northern areas. && Aviation /05z Saturday through Wednesday/... VFR conditions are expected into the middle of next week. && Marine... winds and seas are expected to remain below Small Craft Advisory into the middle of next week. && Car watches/warnings/advisories... ME...none. Marine...none. && $$ Near term...khw short term...Bloomer long term...Bloomer aviation...khw marine...khw/Bloomer
