Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles la
327 PM CDT Thursday Aug 28 2008

Synopsis...

The subtropical high pressure system will slowly breakdown across
the central Gulf of Mexico...allowing the Caribbean storm Gustav
to enter into the Gulf of Mexico...through the Yucatan Channel
..by early Sunday morning. Gustav is forecast to move to the
northwest reaching the north central Gulf of Mexico by Monday. See
latest advisory on Gustav issued by the National Hurricane Center.

A short-wave trough...embedded in the southern midlatitude
westerlies...will remain over the Gulf of Mexico for the next few
days. Its primary Anchor Point...the deep anticyclone over central
Mexico...will move little.

&&

Discussion...

Seasonal temperatures and humidities expected for tonight and
tomorrow. Rain chances will be on the slight side. Patchy light
fog possible near morning...mainly over outlying grassy areas.

&&

Aviation...
stale sinking air will bring about another chance for patchy fog
near dawn. Otherwise...visual flight rules are expected.

&&

Outlook...
the GFS continues to depict an outflow channel (to the
midlatitude westerlies) becoming established along an axis from
the central Gulf of Mexico through Jacksonville and into the
southwest North Atlantic by Sunday morning. Consequently...Gustav may
rapidly intensify...if its track approaches this outflow channel.
