NWS Forecaster Discussion
169 fxus64 klch 292040 afdlch Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles la 340 PM CDT Friday Aug 29 2008 At present... scattered showers and thunderstorms...some on the strong side... continue to move southwest through southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Frequent lightning and gusty downdraft winds to around 40 knots have been measured by the Doppler radar. && Discussion... the latest briefing from the National Hurricane Center shows little change in the track or intensity forecast of Hurricane Gustav. The GFS model depicts the near-future Gulf-of-Mexico Gustav being steered by the deep anticyclone...which sets-up out of the Great Lakes region and ridges south southeast to across Florida. The GFS continues to depict an outflow channel (to the midlatitude westerlies) becoming established along an axis from the central Gulf of Mexico through New Orleans to across the Carolinas by Sunday morning. Consequently...Gustav may rapidly intensify...as it approaches this outflow channel. && Aviation... patchy light fog possible near dawn. Otherwise VFR flying condition are expected. && Preliminary point temps/pops... klch 74 93 74 93 75 / 20 10 10 20 20 kbpt 75 93 74 93 74 / 20 10 10 20 20 kaex 73 96 72 94 73 / 20 10 10 20 20 klft 74 94 74 92 74 / 20 10 10 30 20 && Lch watches/warnings/advisories... la...none.
