Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Wichita Kansas
306 am CDT sun Sep 7 2008

Discussion...

Today:

Rather difficult forecast with respectable baroclinic zone across
southern edge of forecast area which should lift north during the
day. However upper flow becomes confluent which limits amount of
lift. With all the short range models in agreement with basic
scenerio...am expecting precipitation to start to wane after 1200
UTC. Would not be surprised to see this setup lead to extensive
low clouds and drizzle rather than precipitation. Model consensus
also suggest a bit of thinning/clearing across the far south
during the day. Temperatures today will be highly influenced by
clouds and trended warmer near the OK border. Will keep dense fog
advisory going with visibility at sln still at 1/4sm.

Tonight:

Chances of precipitation should increase during the night across
central Kansas where best baroclincity will be located.

Mon:

Front will keep higher probability of precipitation across northwest
half of forecast area...while temperatures should climb ahead of
the front in southeast Kansas. Latest North American model was a bit
faster with frontal passage and have went along with this faster
timing. Precipitation is mainly expected in the vicinity of front
so will trim back on probability of precipitation in far southeast
Kansas where front is not expected until late.

Tue:

With drier air over area...unseasonalbly cool minimums are expected
for much of the area. Temperatures should rebound nicely however
during the day with fairly abundant sunshine.

Wednesday-Sat:

Little change to going forecast. -Howerton
