Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Wichita Kansas
1120 PM CST Monday Jan 5 2009

Aviation...06z tafs krsl/ksln/khut/kict/kcnu
MVFR ceilings or possible IFR conditions will affect southeast Kansas
and the cnu taf site through the middle-morning hours.
Meanwhile...VFR conditions are expected over central and south
central Kansas with a weak frontal boundary sinking southward
during the day. This will veer the winds around to a northwest
direction.

Previous discussion... /issued 311 PM CST Monday Jan 5 2009/

Discussion...
main forecast concerns are temperatures over the next few
days...along with cold frontal passages every couple days.

Tonight-wednesday:
visible satellite shows most of Kansas under sunny skies...with the
exception of far southeast Kansas which is on the northwest fringe
of a cirrus shield. Temperatures have struggled to climb today
despite southerly surface winds...and are generally in the middle to
upper 30s across the forecast area.

Still looks like precipitation will remain off to the south and east
of the forecast area tonight as the previous forecaster stated...so
will keep southeast Kansas dry. A frontal boundary will come through
on Tuesday...but the only noticeable change will be a wind shift and
maybe some gusty winds in central Kansas.

Temperatures will climb above normal on Wednesday...as northwest
flow aloft continues and westerly winds provide some downslope flow.
Highs on Wednesday will climb into the 50s at most locations across
the forecast area.

Thursday-sunday:
northwest flow continues during this period. Another dry cold front
will come through the area on Friday...bringing highs back down to
near normal or slightly below for the weekend. Lows in the teens
look like a good bet for Saturday night with a surface high
overhead. The main concern during this time will be the timing of
the cold front...which will be watched over the coming days.
