Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Pocatello Idaho
247 am MDT sun Sep 7 2008

Discussion...northwest flow pattern will push a weak shortwave
along The Divide today. Moisture and instability will be limited
over eastern Idaho and therefore expect on isolated showers along
The Divide through midnight. A cold front will drop across the
forecast area this evening and tonight which will kick up locally
breezy conditions. Behind the front a Flat Ridge builds across the
west and turns flow to a dry westerly direction. Latest models
indicate that a closed circulation low drops south from Canada
across the Idaho Panhandle into the Snake River Plain by Wednesday
evening. The low slows and drifts east across the plain through
Thursday night. This solution...which is similar in both long
range models...is a drastic difference from earlier solutions
which keeps the low well to our east. Confidence in model
solutions is low at this time and therefore have introduced
slight chance showers during this time frame rather than the much
wetter footprint indicated. Hanko

&&

Aviation...VFR conditions expected today with a few wind gusts to
20kts possible at the taf sites.

&&

Fire weather...northwest flow continues across the region. Red flag
conditions are not anticipated at this time since wind gusts and
relative humidity are expected to remain below criteria. Humidity
values will drop significantly Monday as a short wave ridge builds
over the area. However...winds are expected to remain relatively
light. Red flag conditions could be met on Tuesday as a cold front
approaches the area. Humidity will remain low but winds will pick up
ahead of the front.
