NWS Forecaster Discussion
944 fxus62 kffc 070610 afdffc Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia 210 am EDT sun Sep 7 2008 Short term /today through Tuesday/... NAM/GFS pretty close in the short term. The 500 mb ridge will remain nearly stationary from the Atlantic and across south Georgia/North Florida and into the northern Gulf through Tuesday. The surface boundary across central Georgia will lift back north as the low level flow begins to respond to a combination of the surface ridge to our northeast and Ike to our south producing an onshore flow off the Atlantic. This will bring higher dewpoints and a chance of showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening on Monday. A 500 mb short wave moving across the Midwest and an associated cold front will move into the Tennessee Valley Tuesday bringing a better chance of thunderstorms to mainly north Georgia Tuesday. Long term /Tuesday night through Saturday/... long term is highly dependent on the track of Ike although consensus of the GFS/European model (ecmwf) indicates that as Ike moves into the Gulf the 500 mb ridge rebuilds just over Georgia and Florida. This pushes Ike into the western Gulf leaving Georgia in the afternoon and evening thunderstorms through the long term with plenty of Atlantic moisture to work with. No big temperature swings expected through the long term. && Preliminary point temps/pops...
