Discussion...the ridge remains firmly in place over central and 
the hot airmass persists. Today should be as hot or maybe a degree 
or so hotter than Saturday. Given this, lots of 100-105 readings 
are on tap for the San Joaquin Valley, foothills and the Kern 
County desert areas. For Monday, forecast models continue to show 
the ridge weakening aloft however 850 mb temperatures show little 
change. The Sierra may see a little cooling as the trough edges 
southward however the lower elevations will not cool very much at 
all. I have made some adjustments to the grids to reflect a hotter 
Monday with the cooling not really getting going until Tuesday 
when a secondary trough digs southward into California. The trough 
is projected to deepen on Wednesday and Thursday as the GFS model 
develops a closed low over the northern rockies and shifts it east 
on Thursday night. Heights begin to rebound on Friday as the east 
Pacific Ridge builds back into California with the ridge remaining 
strong through the weekend. Temperatures will be the coolest on 
Wednesday and Thursday and then with the building ridge, begin to 
warm through next weekend.

interior through 12z Monday.

Air quality issues... 
on Sunday September 7 2008... unhealthy in Fresno... Kern and 
Tulare counties. Unhealthy for sensitive groups in Kings and 
Madera counties.
