Discussion... 
upper level trough remains over the West Coast this morning with a 
cool air mass over the area. This morning temperatures were 1 to 6 
degrees lower than yesterday in most places. Some places where the 
winds were lighter this morning along the east side of the 
Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys and in the motherlode 
and Lake County temperatures dropped into the 30s with patchy frost 
possible. Temperatures in the valley are expected to be a little 
cooler tonight with weaker winds as the gradients turn more to the 
east. The colder outlying and wind sheltered areas in the Central 
Valley...mainly along the east side and Lake County valleys along 
with the foothills may drop to near freezing tomorrow morning with 
patchy frost possibly developing. Near record to record low 
temperatures are possible tomorrow morning...especially in wind 
sheltered areas. The following are the current records for 
Sunday...Red Bluff 40...downtown Sacramento 42...Sacramento 
executive 42...Stockton 40...Modesto 41. 


The gusty north to North East winds are expected to increase this 
morning with the mfr-SAC gradient around 10 mb this morning. The 
winds are expected to decrease this evening with the northerly 
gradient weakening. The Wind Advisory conditions area expected to 
diminish this evening. The gradient will turn more easterly tonight 
as the surface high moves into eastern Oregon. This will bring 
locally gusty winds...mainly over the ridges and northeast-southwest 
oriented canyons (like the feather river canyon). Strong and gusty 
north to northeast winds and low humidities lead to fire weather 
concerns warranting a red flag warning through Sunday afternoon for 
elevations below 1500 feet. The northeasterly winds are expected to 
continue into early next week...especially in the late night/early 
morning with the surface thermal trough along the coast. 


The low and associated trough slowly shift east on Sunday with high 
pressure building in behind it. High pressure will bring dry weather 
and warmer temperatures Sunday into early next week. Temperatures 
are expected to be back up to near normal on Monday and continue 
through the week. Hso

Aviation...upper level trough of low pressure will remain situated 
over the Great Basin through the next 24 hours...with strong north 
to northeasterly flow over California. As a result...VFR conditions 
will continue to prevail across most of the region...with areas of 
MVFR and local IFR conditions possible in isolated snow showers 
along and east of the Sierra crest. Winds will increase again this 
morning in the valley and Delta as well as the coastal range...with 
sustains northwest-NE winds 18 to 25 kts and gusts up to 35 kts possible 
through this evening. The strongest winds will likely be along the 
west side of the valley.

Sto watches/warnings/advisories...red flag warning through Sunday 
5 PM PDT for the Sacramento Valley...Delta...and northern San 
Joaquin Valley along with the coastal range and northeastern 
foothills below 1500 feet for gusty north winds and low humidity. 


Wind Advisory through 8 PM PDT Saturday for the Sacramento 
Valley...Lake County...the coastal range...northern San Joaquin 
Valley and the Delta.
