Discussion...an upper trough over The Rockies with axis extending 
back over socal will continue to provide a dry north-NE flow across 
central California today. Surface high in the Great Basin will combine with 
flow to produce some locally gusty winds through passes and 
canyons of the Kern mtns/deserts...mainly this morning. Upper 
ridge however will be building inland during the day...with models 
showing a sharp rise in both 1000-500 mb thickness (170-200 
meters) and 850 mb temperatures warming 6-7 degs/c. 24 hour change showing 
mountain temperatures are already up some 8-12 degrees from yesterday at this 
time. So...much warmer most areas today. Flat upper ridge and 
offshore flow will continue to provide warming into middle week. Temperatures by 
Wednesday likely to be 3-7 degrees above climatology with 850 mb temperatures peaking 
around 18-19 degs/c...then little change through Friday. A neutral or 
weakly offshore surface pattern continues into the weekend. However 
the GFS attempts to bring some form of southern stream upper trough 
to the California coast during the weekend with quite a bit of cooling. 
This feature not seen on other models and discounted. Used Euro 
temperatures over the weekend...but did lower them a few degrees with weak 
upper level shortwave trough passing through Sat/Sat night.
