Update... 
water vapor images indicate cold upper low digging south over 
California. Central California in between upper level jets. South 
jet of system will align with strong surface pressure gradients 
towards the Mojave Desert and should may in high winds this 
afternoon below mountain passes of the tehachapis. Will monitor 
wind reports for potential upgrade of the current Wind Advisory. 
Radar show shower activity in Mono County moving towards the 
Yosemite area. Expect snow to develop around midday over the 
higher elevations of the Sierra due to increasing NE upslope flow. 
Much colder day and windy in store for the region with 24 
temperatures drops of 8-10c degrees. Otherwise no changes to 
current zone forecast.

Previous discussion...large scale closed low will continue to 
make its impact on the forecast area through the weekend with 
windy conditions today and tonight and cool temperatures through 
Sunday. The winds will pick up again across the west side of the 
valley and along the crest of the Sierra today. Winds have stayed 
up over most of the Kern County mountains and into the Kern County 
desert area. Winds will increase to just below warning criteria 
this afternoon and will need to be monitored. Local gusts to near 
70 miles per hour will be possible near Mojave late this afternoon as winds 
funnel through the passes into the deserts. 


First real shot of cold air will be felt over the region as the 
upper low crosses the region. The coldest air of the season is 
expected through the weekend. As an upper ridge builds back over the 
region we will see temperatures gradually rebound to back above 
normal values by the end of the week. Skies will remain clear 
except towards the end of the week...where the GFS and the European model (ecmwf) 
are indication some tropical moisture moving across the Kern 
County region. Will hold off for now and wait and see if it still 
shows up on another run.

Aviation...local MVFR conditions in blowing dust will prevail 
through 06z this evening as winds increase over the region. Local 
gusts to 35 kts...mainly along the west side of the San Joaquin 
Valley. Gusty conditions also will continue in the Kern County 
mountains and deserts through Friday...especially through and below 
the passes and canyons...with local MVFR in blowing dust or sand. 
Conditions begin improving by 06z Saturday.
