NWS Forecaster Discussion
673 fxus64 klzk 111943 afdlzk Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Little Rock Arkansas 238 PM CDT Sat Oct 11 2008 Short term...tonight through Tuesday night an abundance of cumulus clouds developed today across Arkansas as a short wave moved into Arkansas from the east. The morning klzk sounding shows a strong cap near 6k feet however. This kept the vertical extent in check. Temperatures have warmed with a southeast wind through the afternoon. In the upper levels...high pressure is over much of the eastern U.S. With a strong low over the west. Between the two systems...moisture will be driven into the U.S. From Hurricane Norbert in the Pacific. The low will move into Canada Monday and the high pressure aloft will remain strong through Tuesday. High pressure and subsidence will keep dry weather over Arkansas through Monday. A cold front will move into the plains Monday and into Arkansas Tuesday. This will allow moisture to funnel in ahead of the front. Some of the moisture will be from Hurricane Norbert...caught up in the northeast flow. Will start precipitation chances in the west Monday night and spread them east. Above normal temperatures are expected through the period. && Long term...Wednesday through Saturday night front will move into the area by Wednesday...slowly making its way southward as the upper ridge anchored over the Gulf Coast sinks to the south. Precipitation chances will gradually subside as the front moves out of the state on Thursday. Upper trough building over the central Continental U.S. Will send high pressure into the region on northwesterly flow aloft. Not expecting much of a cooldown behind the system though...as the Gulf Coast ridge re-exerts itself...and the surface high moves to the southeast and southerly flow returns. && Preliminary point temps/pops...
