Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama
635 PM CDT Friday Aug 29 2008

Update...00z taf issuance.

&&

Aviation...
VFR conditions expected at both taf sites through midnight. After
midnight...calm winds...clearing skies...and boundary layer moisture
will combine to enhance the development of br. IFR conditions are
expected at khsv and kmsl tomorrow morning around daybreak. In
addition...vlifr conditions are possible from 10 to 12z at kmsl as
visibilities drop below 1/2sm. After br/fog dissipation by 15z at both
sites...VFR conditions will prevail for the rest of the period.

&&

Previous discussion.../issued at 245 PM CDT Aug 29 2008/...went with NAM
for the short term forecast and a blend of MOS values for temperatures. Made
only minor changes to previous forecast package due to the uncertainty
of Gustav track.

Weak cold front over southeastern MO with outflow boundary across western
Tennessee...which was kicking off a few rain showers/thunderstorms and rain just to our north.
Since Gulf is cutoff...no real good low level moisture supply...thus
after sunset expect coverage of rain showers/thunderstorms and rain to diminish. This weak
cold front will stall out/wash out over our area...but may still have
enough effect to produce a slight chance of rain showers/thunderstorms and rain anytime this
weekend...however afternoon/evening looks like the best timing. No severe
weather is expected anytime this weekend.

Rest of extended forecast...will all depend on what Gustav does. At this time
the official track is to hit southern la around Tuesday morning. As Gustav
approaches the Gulf Coast the chance of scattered rain showers/thunderstorms and rain will increase.
Thinking that Gustav will effect the County Warning Area as early as Tuesday.
However...depending on location of East Coast high and track of
Gustav...our County Warning Area may not see much in the way of precipitation...especially
if European model (ecmwf) turns out to be correct. Thus made only minor tweaks to
the extended forecast for now.
