... NWS survey teams investigating damage today...
National Weather Service meteorologists have surveyed storm
damage and storm tracks across central Alabama as a result of the
remnants of Tropical Storm Fay on August 25th. The following are the
findings of the surveys that were completed.

Arley tornado (winston county)
Path: brief touchdown in Arley. Numerous public sightings and video.
Rating: EF0
path length: < 0.1 mile
path width: 20 yards
damage: several street signs blown down. One sign blown into a
powerpole snapping the pole.
Injuries: none.
Approximate time of occurrence: 6:40 PM (august 24)
warnings: Tornado Warning in effect 6:46 PM - 7:15 PM
Emerald Mountain tornado (elmore county)
Path: brief touchdown reported near Emerald Mountain.

Coosa River tornado (elmore county)
Path: brief touchdown along the Coosa River 1 mile southwest of
Welona.

Inland Lake tornado (blount county)
Path: the tornado touched down near the South Shore on the eastern
end of Inland Lake... directly across the lake from the boat launch.
The tornado then moved northwestward across the lake... across the
boat launch area... and lifted about a quarter mile northwest of
there just off of boat Landing Road.
Rating: EF1 (peak winds around 90 mph)

path width: 60 yards
damage: numerous trees snapped and uprooted... two structures with
light damage... and several power poles down.
Injuries: none.

Sugar Valley subdivision (calhoun county)
A brief EF-1 tornado damage path was found in the Sugar Valley
subdivision... just off al-22 in the southeastern portion of Calhoun
County. One house was badly damaged in the subdivision.
Choccolocco tornado (calhoun county)
Path: the tornado touched down on Cross Creek Road... just east of
Choccolocco Road. The tornado then moved north-northwestward...
roughly parallel to Choccolocco Road... and lifted near the
intersection of Choccolocco Road and Cobb Road.
Rating: EF1 (peak winds 90-100 mph)
path length: about 1.1 miles
path width: 250 yards
damage: one auto shop destroyed... two houses with moderate damage...
one home with light damage... and 50-100 trees snapped or uprooted.
Injuries: none.
Approximate time of occurrence: 12:16 PM - 12:17 PM (august 25)

Needmore tornado - number one (pike county)
Path: the tornado touched down near the intersection of Needmore
Road and Pike County Road 7749. The tornado then moved north-
northeastward... roughly parallel to Needmore Road... and lifted
shortly after touchdown.
Rating: EF0 (peak winds around 75 mph)
path length: about 1/10 of a mile
path width: 20 yards
damage: minor damage to roof of home. Outbuilding destroyed.
Awning of barn housing tractor destroyed with supports tossed around
100 feet... with part of awning tossed 100 feet also. Around
one dozen Hardwood trees snapped aloft or loss of limbs.
Insulation from home found 6 to 8 miles north of home.
Injuries: none.

Needmore tornado - number 2 (pike county)
Path: the tornado touched down just 2/10 mile north of the
intersection of Needmore Road and Pike County Road 7749. The
tornado then moved north-northeastward... roughly parallel to
Needmore Road... and lifted shortly after touchdown.
Rating: EF0 (peak winds around 80 mph)
path length: about 1/5 of a mile
path width: 75 yards
damage: minor to major damage to two Chicken coops. A few Hardwood
trees snapped aloft
injuries: none.
Approximate time of occurrence: 8:20 am - 8:30 am (august 25)

Enon tornado (pike county)
Path: this tornado touched down and lifted near Enon... on County
Road 6649.
Rating: EF0 (peak winds around 75 mph)

path width: 25 yards
damage: several Hardwood trees uprooted... with one having rotted
trunk. Small limbs of Pine trees observed in area also with one
Pine Tree snapped aloft.
Injuries: none.
Approximate time of occurrence: 5:50 PM - 6:00 PM (august 25)

Saint Clair Springs tornado (saint Clair county)
Path: the tornado touched down just northeast of the Saint Clair
correctional facility. From there it moved northwest..across al-23
and Interstate 59... to just east of the intersection of al-23 and
US-11.
Rating: EF1 (peak winds around 90 mph)
path length: about 3.4 miles
path width: 100 yards
damage: a few structures had minor damage from fallen trees.
Otherwise... damage was primarily snapped softwood trees along the
path.
Injuries: none.
Five Points tornado (cleburne county)
Path: the tornado touched down on US-431 about a half mile south of
the intersection with al-281. The tornado then moved
northwestward... along and just east of US-431... and lifted just
before reaching al-281.
Rating: EF2 (peak winds 110-120 mph)
path length: about .4 miles
path width: 400 yards
damage: one gas station/convenience store and one auto body shop
were significantly damaged... and 100-200 trees were snapped
or uprooted.
Injuries: none.
